Flight hoax caller jailed for 2 years in Australia
A Newcastle man has today been jailed for making a hoax bomb threat against a flight from Mumbai to Singapore in 2019.
The man was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with a minimum non-parole period of one year in the Downing Centre Local Court today (Friday 5 February, 2021), after pleading guilty to using a carriage service for hoax threat, contrary to section 474.16 of the Criminal Code Act 1995 (Cth).
On 26 March 2019, the now 40-year-old man placed a call to Mumbai International Airport from his home, and claimed a bomb was on board. A relative of the man was on the flight at the time.
Govt to Begin Third Round of Privatisation of 6-10 Airports in April, Says Official

The government is all set to start the third round of the airport privatisation in April this year, Pradeep Singh Kharola, the civil aviation secretary, said on Thursday, adding it could see six-ten airports taken.
In this round, the government will adopt a fresh approach, that of clubbing a non-profit-making airport with a profit-making one and offering it in the form of a package. “The Airport Authority of India (AAI) is examining the feasibility of giving a non-profitable airport and a profit-making airport as a package. We could see six to 10 airports being taken up, Kharola said.
Foreign airlines explain extra measures, seek cooperation
Travel operators, Wednesday, kicked against the new COVID-19 antigen tests among other safety measures now imposed by some foreign airlines plying the Nigerian route. x
The operators flayed the additional discomfort and extra cost imposed on the travelling public in Nigeria alone, describing them as exploitative.
The airlines earlier explained that the additional test measures were due to rampant cases of fake COVID-19 test results coming from Nigeria.

Of 2,055 air passengers, 1,806 had PCR certificates with a negative result, while 249 Kazakhstanis arrived without certificates.
12 flights with 1,149 passengers on board (106 without PCR test certificates) landed at the airport in Almaty city. 7 flights with 811 passengers on board (143 with no PCR test certificates) landed at the airport in Nur-Sultan city. 1 flight with 95 passengers on board (all had the certificates) landed at the airport in Atyrau city.
